Is there something wrong with?
Karma CP asked:
surgically altering ones body ( breast enhancement, nose job, liposuction) if the person is so incredibly unhappy with the area, that it is affecting his/her life in a tremendously negative way (we’re talking about truly flat chested, way out of proportion noses, or extreme cellulite ?)

There’s not necessarily anything wrong with it. A lot of people believe you should just be happy with the way you are and they see cosmetic surgery as vain. I personally would not get anything done simply because it’s SURGERY. If anyone has ever had surgery, they wonder why someone would elect to do it. But, I am relatively happy with the way I look, so I don’t claim to know how it can be to be extremely unhappy about it and what lengths people would go to in order to feel happy.

Reminds me of people who want to be taller in men. There’s a surgery that cuts your tibia or something then separates it for almost a year just so people can grow three inches. There’s been people of 5′8″ trying to get it done, some even go to Russia and get the treatment. Unless a psychologists determines it’s truly effecting your health health insurance usually doesnt pay for it, but it’s possible.
A lot of people hate things about themselves, actually, most everyone does. Everyone’s thinking about themselves and contantly validating their appearance by comparison to others. Altering our bodies may help self esteem but remember the friends we find on the alteration alone that we wouldnt have found before are shallow.
I’ve never understood the breast fascination.

Beth made a great point about safety and surgery.
From the point of view of religion and spirituality, and as long as there is no question of endangering one’s life or heath, how is sugery any different than wearing make-up? And why should the incredibly unhappy person have more of a “pass” than the beauty who wants to be more beautiful? Very thought provoking question, thanks for bringing it up!

Well it’s not necessarily wrong. But God made you the way you are, unique from everyone else. Those who have surgery almost always look alike, it’s like having tons of barbies walking around. So be happey with the way that the Lord made you.

I am not happy with my reseeding hairline but comparing myself to others with real problems, I should just be happy. So just compare yourself with others. For an honest opinion send me a real picture. my name shown is my yahoo email

I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Making that decision should be like anything else in life. People are human and we make mistakes…even the wonderful doctors that perform these procedures. There should be a long learning process about the doctor and procedure before the surgery. I’m considering it myself.

Why are you unhappy by this? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I saw a beautiful young woman that thought she was imperfect. After about 10 operations, she looked like a hideous monster. Beauty comes from the inside of you. You can have multible operations, but if you are unhappy inside about how people see you, you will most probably still be unhappy after many operations.
Apperantly you are surrounded by self centered selfish people. Don’t let them define beauty for you.
We are all beautiful in God’s eyes. I have never seen an ugly person on the outside. I have seen some beautiful people outside, but on the inside they are self centered and obnoxious.

Salam Alikum,
upto my information… medical treatment to remove any Harm to human life is POSITAVE efort of human.
Beautification Surgery is not long lasting solution of someone problems… it require case to case study.
for example: a lady with FLAT Chest like to looks attractive to her life partner goto SURGERY … Looks short cut solution …. BUT
Instead of SURGEY this can be done my social science of ISLAMIC Life…
Female body with FLAT BREASTs shows she is not actively engage with KIDS or childrens in her daily life
Advise said Femail to spare her time to PLAY with kids around her as much she can & drink milk related drinks… in 40 days time she could see the results
this way her behaviour will also change … & she will feel MOTHERHOOD feelings too (Insha Allah)

i think the real question is “is there something wrong with today’s ideals of beauty thereby making people to care about getting plastic surgery in the first place?”

If you tend to be unhappy about your personal appearance, I guarantee that, after you make the changes, you will find new things to be unhappy about!
